In February 2012, the initial phase of the much anticipated Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway opened to huge crowds. The $386 million dollar casino is located off of turn two at Kansas Speedway, and features more than 100,000 square feet of gambling space, including 2,000 slot machines, 52 table games and five restaurants. Planed future phases include expanded gaming space, a spa, hotel, convention center and retail shopping.
The Village West retail and entertainment district is located adjacent to the Kansas Speedway, and features a variety of shopping, dining and entertainment destinations for the entire family, including the Kansas City T-Bones baseball and Sporing Kansas City soccer venues.
Anchoring the Village West retail and entertainment district is The Legends Outlets Kansas City, a 1.2 million square-foot open-air lifestyle and entertainment center, that features over 85 shops and restaurants.
Another major western Kansas City, Kansas tourist destination, Schlitterbahn Vacation Village is being built just east of Kansas Speedway and Village West. Schlitterbahn Vacation Village will be a 370 acre waterpark and year-round resort and retail destination. The Waterpark portion of the development opened in the summer of 2009, with the resort and retail destinations opening in future stages.
