Another major tourist destination on the horizon for western Kansas City, Kansas is Schlitterbahn Vacation Village.

Schlitterbahn Vacation Village is a 370 acre destination water park and year-round resort, being built just east of Kansas Speedway and the Village West retail and entertainment district.

In addition to the water park, Schlitterbahn Vacation Village will feature a riverwalk with destination retail, dining and entertainment, a full-service hotel, waterfront cabins, a unique Treehaus Resort with elevated pods, and other destination attractions.

Schlitterbahn Vacation Village will open in phases, with the waterpark opening this summer and the lodging, riverwalk shops, restaurants and other attractions opening in stages through 2011.

On another front, proposals from two developers to build a destination casino in western Kansas City, Kansas have been forwarded to the state of Kansas for consideration.

Kansas Speedway and the Cordish Company propose to build a destination Hard Rock Casino on turn two at Kansas Speedway, while Penn Hollywood Kansas LLC proposed to build a destination resort and casino adjacent to the Schlitterbahn Vacation Village site.
